supply當“提供;供應”講，supply sb.with sth./ supply sth.to sb. 向某人提供某物

[例]

1.They supplied food aids to the people in the flood-stricken area.

=They supplied the people in the flood-stricken area with food aids. 他們向受災地區(qū)的人們提供了食品援助。

[聯(lián)想]近義詞為provide/offer.

1.offer sb. sth./offer sth. to sb. 向某人提供某物

He offered me a cup of tea.=He offered a cup of tea to me.

2.provide sb. with sth./ provide sth. for sb. 向某人提供某物，供應

The firm has provided me with a car.=The firm has provided a car for me. 公司提供給我一輛汽車。

在涉及到錢時，supply則不明確，一般講來要給錢，provide往往則意味著免費提供。

The school provides the students with lesson-sheets. 學校免費給學生提供講義。

We can supply you with some rare Ming editions. 我們可以給你提供一些稀有的明版書。

2.The accident resulted in the death of two people. 這場意外事故造成兩人死亡。

Success results form hard work. 成功來自努力。

[聯(lián)想]result in造成，result form由……造成。

定語從句中"of+which/whom"結(jié)構(gòu)表示整體與部分的關(guān)系，介詞of前或后加名詞、代詞、數(shù)詞、復雜介詞(如in front of)、形容詞最高級等。

[例]The child was saved by a man, the name of whom was not known. 這個孩子被一位不知姓名的男子所救。

China has many rivers, the longest of which is the Yangtze River. 中國有眾多河流，最長的是長江。
