我們和好友經常到各自家中坐坐，走往走往。既可以增進感情，又可以消除寂寞感。初次登門，當然是受到熱情款待，那么走往多了，天天都到人家家中去，作為主人這方的就會起厭煩之感。因此，就有這么一句話：“親戚遠來香，?？驮饫溆?。”今天我就要教您一招說這樣的“拜訪”。

我們就先來聽下面的2個例子：

例句-1：Tom visited the Smiths so often that he worn out his welcome.

例句-2：At about midnight I decided I had worn out my welcome, so I went home.

接招：在剛才我們聽到的2個例句中都用到了同一個詞語：worn out one's welcome，worn是動詞wear的過去式，因此這個短語是wear out one's welcome。短語中的wear out是使......精疲力盡，耗盡的意思。例如：She' s worn out after a long hard day. 累了整整一天，她筋疲力盡了。His patience was worn out.他已忍耐不住了。Wear out one's welcome這個習語從字面意思看就是：耗盡某人的熱情而使別人對你的歡迎程度削減，使得別人招待你都招待得精疲力盡了而不愿意接待你了，意即：訪客到別人家呆的太久或過于頻繁來訪(而使得主人產生厭煩之感)，其英文解釋是這樣的：to stay too long (at an event to which one has been invited); to visit somewhere too often。
