如果想直譯“考試不及格”可能會感覺很復雜，其實它的英語表達很簡單，因為當fail與exam或test等詞連用時就有“沒通過”的意思，所以可以用fail the exam來表示。

Tom failed math in the final exam.

這次期末考試湯姆的數(shù)學沒及格。

對話

A:Mike,how about your final exam?

邁克，期末考試考得怎么樣?

B:Oh,I failed history.

噢，我歷史沒及格。

“考試不及格”還可以說成flunk[fl??k]the exam

cram school /kræm/

補習班

“補習班”通常指學生為了應付考試而參加的課外強化訓練課程，cram的意思是“(考前)臨時抱佛腳;強化學習”，正好符合補習班的特征，所以用cram school來表示“補習班”。

Tom's mom chose English for him in the cram school.

媽媽為湯姆選了英語補習班。

對話

A:Do you have any plans tonight,Tom?

湯姆，你今晚有什么安排嗎?

B:Well,I have to go to the cram school.

哦，我得去上補習班。

死記硬背

“死記硬背”跟dead“死的”和hard“硬的”可沒有關(guān)系，它指的是機械記憶，在英文中可以用rote表示。

Lily used to learn English by rote.

莉莉過去靠死記硬背學英語。

A:It's really difficult for me to learn English.

學習英語對我來說太難了。

B:You should not memorize words by rote.

你不應該靠死記硬背來記憶單詞。

此外，a perfect score和a maximum score也可以指“滿分”

逃課

“逃課”可不能直譯為escape from the class，而要用play hooky來表示。

They played hooky and went for a picnic last Friday.

他們上周五逃課出去野餐了。

A:We played hooky yesterday.

昨天我們逃課了。

B:You should have not done that.

你們不該那樣做的。
