A potential get-rich-quick tale turned tragic after an anonymous lottery winner forgot to claim their $14.6 million jackpot before the deadline. The colossal cash prize marks the largest unclaimed lotto sum in Arizona history, reports CNN.

Contestants reportedly had 180 days to sign off on their eye-popping “The Pick” jackpot since the June 5 drawing, according to 12news.com. However, when Dec. 2 came around, no one had shown up at the Arizona Lottery Offices to cash their ticket to riches.
“It’s hard to see that not get claimed,” Arizona lottery spokeswoman Jacqueline Keidel Martinez tells NBC News.
A week before the deadline, the Arizona Lottery even posted a tweet with the caption, “What would you do first if you were sitting on that winning ticket for the past 180 days?” “Turn it in,” was the resounding reply.

Unfortunately, forgetting to answer Lady Luck’s call is an all-too-common phenomenon. According to lotto expert Brett Jacobson, there was $2.89 billion in unclaimed winnings in the year ending June 2017.
