Obese people are more than twice as likely to survive infectious disease than under-weight patients, a study claims.

一項研究表明，肥胖者在傳染病中存活的幾率比體重過輕者高出兩倍以上。

The “obesity paradox” extends to pneumonia with obese patients up to 30 percent less likely to die.

“肥胖悖論”延伸至肺炎，肥胖者患肺炎死亡的可能性會降低30%。

Researchers looked at more than 18,000 patients admitted for infectious disease and their risk of death 90 days after discharge.

研究人員調查了1.8萬多名因傳染病住院的病人，以及他們出院后90天內的死亡風險。

They found underweight patients are 2.2 times more likely to die than normal weight people.

他們發(fā)現(xiàn)體重過輕的病人的死亡幾率比正常體重的病人高2.2倍。

But the overweight were 40 percent less likely to die than those at a normal weight and the obese 50 percent less likely.

但是超重的病人的死亡的幾率比正常體重的病人要低40%，而肥胖的病人則低50%。

The Danish team suggested obesity could be an evolutionary defense to infectious disease. Their findings have not yet been published.

A separate study looked at 1.7 million pneumonia patients in the US.

The Chinese researchers found the overweight were 23 percent more likely to survive than normal weight.
