1. a bunch of: 一群，一堆

2. liquor decanter: 酒瓶，decanter意思是酒壺，或者玻璃水瓶

3. get it: 明白了。這里的意思是，我沒(méi)聽(tīng)懂。

4. lumber yard: 木材廠

5. fond of: 喜歡

She is fond of flaunting her superiority before her friends and schoolmates.（她好在朋友和同學(xué)面前逞強(qiáng)。）

6. letter: 這里是指錄取通知書(shū)

7. stuffy: 枯燥無(wú)味的；一本正經(jīng)的

stuffy也可以表示通風(fēng)不暢的；悶熱的；空氣不新鮮的

It was hot and stuffy in the classroom.（教室里很悶熱。）

8. Spanish lnquisition: 這里父親是說(shuō)：別再審訊他們了。

9. buttoned: 扣住，系住。這句的意思是：我立刻閉嘴。

I buttoned up my coat; it was chilly.（我扣上了外套的扣子；天氣很冷。）
