Senegal Approved a New Constitution

Senegal: Voters have approved a new constitution. Reuters and the French Press Agency both report that a huge majority(1) supported the proposed changes. The new constitution gives equality(2) to women and strengthens(3) the office of Prime Minister. It also shortens the term of the president from 7 to 5 years, and limits a president to two terms. The new constitution will also end the Senate【參議院】. President Abdoulaye Wade had called on voters to approve the new constitution, so did all the major political parties. Three small parties in Senegal campaigned(4) against it. Senegal’s Interior(5) Minister said 66 percent of the voting population took part in the vote.
