The Cat and the Moon	貓與月
The cat went here and there	那貓兒走來走去的，
And the moon spun round like a top,	月亮則如陀螺般轉(zhuǎn)，
And the nearest kin of the moon,	那位月亮的血親——
The creeping cat, looked up.	匍匐的貓兒——抬頭看著。
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,	黑色的敏納婁什緊盯著月亮，
For, wander and wail as he would,	隨意地走動，叫著，
The pure cold light in the sky	天上清純的冷光
Troubled his animal blood.	攪擾它野性的血液。
Minnaloushe runs in the grass	敏納婁什在雪地上跑著，
Lifting his delicate feet.	抬起它輕巧的爪兒。
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?	跳舞嗎，敏納婁什，跳舞嗎？
When two close kindred meet,	當(dāng)你與月亮相遇，
What better than call a dance?	有什么比邀舞更好？
Maybe the moon may learn,	也許月亮
Tired of that courtly fashion,	早厭倦了宮廷的舞步，
A new dance turn.	學(xué)會了一種新的旋舞？
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass	敏納婁什在草叢里玩著，
From moonlit place to place,	到月光照亮的地方，這里，那里，
The sacred moon overhead	而頭頂?shù)氖嵉脑铝?/td>
Has taken a new phase.	正不斷變換著月相。
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils	敏納婁什可知道嗎，
Will pass from change to change,	它的瞳孔也在這樣變化，
And that from round to crescent,	由缺而圓,
From crescent to round they range?	由圓而缺？
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass	敏納婁什在草叢里潛行，
Alone, important and wise,	孤獨(dú)，矜持，聰明，
And lifts to the changing moon	對天上那輪變幻著的月亮
His changing eyes.	抬起它變幻著的眼睛。
