"You villain!" said he, "where's your daughter?"

"你這惡棍！"他說(shuō)，"你的女兒在什么地方？"

The fat man cast his eyes round, and then up at the open skylight.

這胖子用眼睛向四周打量了一下，又看看上面打開(kāi)的天窗。

"It is for me to ask you that," he shrieked, "you thieves! Spies and thieves!

"這句話是要由我來(lái)問(wèn)你們才對(duì)！"他尖聲叫喊說(shuō)，"你們這幫賊！賊探子！

I have caught you, have I? You are in my power. I'll serve you!"

我可捉住你們了，是不是？你們掉進(jìn)我的掌心里來(lái)了，我要讓你們夠受的！"

He turned and clattered down the stairs as hard as he could go.

他轉(zhuǎn)過(guò)身去，咯噔咯噔地盡快跑下樓去。

"He's gone for the dog!" cried Miss Hunter.

"他是去找那只狗來(lái)的！"亨特小姐大聲說(shuō)。

"I have my revolver," said I.

"我有左輪槍！"我說(shuō)。

"Better close the front door," cried Holmes, and we all rushed down the stairs together.

"最好把門關(guān)上，"福爾摩斯說(shuō)，于是我們一起向樓下沖去。

We had hardly reached the hall when we heard the baying of a hound,

我們還沒(méi)到達(dá)大廳，便聽(tīng)見(jiàn)獵犬的狂吠聲，

and then a scream of agony, with a horrible worrying sound which it was dreadful to listen to.

然后是一陣凄厲的尖叫和令人可怖的獵犬撕咬人的聲音，使人聽(tīng)了為之毛骨悚然。

An elderly man with a red face and shaking limbs came staggering out at a side door.

一個(gè)紅臉蛋、上了年紀(jì)的人揮舞著胳膊跌跌撞撞地從邊門走了出來(lái)。

"My God!" he cried. "Someone has loosed the dog. It's not been fed for two days. Quick, quick, or it'll be too late!"

"我的天，"他大聲喊著，"什么人把狗放出來(lái)了。它已經(jīng)兩天沒(méi)喂過(guò)食啦，快，快，要不就來(lái)不及了！"
