May: Excuse me. I'd like some information on how to get
into an American university.
梅：勞駕。我想了解一下，怎樣才能進入美國的大學學習。
Counsellor: Well, first, you write and get an application form. Then. you send it in with a copy of your school
records and an affidavit of support.
顧問：好的。首先你得寫信索取一份申請表。然后把填好的表連同你的學習成績單的復印件及一份經(jīng)濟擔保書一起寄去。
May: And do I need to take any tests?
梅：我需要參加什么考試嗎？
Counsellor: Yes, you have to take TOEFL.
顧問：要的，你必須參加托福考試。
May: And what about the visa? When can I apply for it?
梅：那么簽證呢？我什么時候可以申請簽證？
Counsellor: Well, you can't apply for the visa until you get a letter of acceptance and an l-20 form from a university.
顧問：嗯，要等到你收到錄取通知書和1-20表格以后才能申請簽證。
May: I see. And one more thing. Are foreign sts
allowed to work in the States?
梅：我知道了。還有一個問題，外國學生允許在美國打工嗎？
Counsellor: They'll only let you work in summer. And you'll need to get permission from the U.S. Office of Immigration
to do that. During the school year. you're not allowed
to work unless the work experience is part of your school program.
顧問：只許在夏天打工，還得有美國移民辦公室的許可才行。在上課期間不許打工，除非學校的教學計劃規(guī)定你需要這方面的工作經(jīng)驗。

留學美國的4個基本要求

很多人都向往去國外留學，尤其是留學美國。但事實上留學并不是一件很容易的事情，下面我們一起來看看留學美國都有哪些基本要求：
學歷要求（academic background）
對于中國學生來說，申讀美國大學本科課程至少要高中畢業(yè)，申讀碩士課程要本科畢業(yè)，并擁有學士學位。申請學校和專業(yè)時應盡量符合個人的教育背景、工作經(jīng)歷及興趣愛好。
英語要求( English level)
美國大學都要求學生在申請時提供英語成績，基本要求為：申讀本科，托福（Test of English as a Foreign Language）英語作為外國語的考試）不得低干500分。申讀研究生，不僅要求托福550分以上，可能還需要提供其他相關(guān)成績，如理工科、文科及數(shù)學專業(yè)要求提供GRE（Graduate Record Examination．美國研究生入學考試）成績，商科專業(yè)要求提供GMAT( Graduate Management Admissions Test，管理學研究生入學資格考試）成績，醫(yī)科專業(yè)要求提供MCAT(Medical College Admissions Test，醫(yī)學院入學考試）成績，法律專業(yè)要求提供LSAT（Law School Admissions Test，法學院校入學考試）成績等。
經(jīng)濟要求( financial condition)
由于學校和專業(yè)不同，美國大學的學費相差很大。一般來說，社區(qū)大學（community university）的學費為每年2000美元左右，而有些優(yōu)秀的私立大學（private university）每年的學費和膳宿費高達28000美元。
簽證要求( visa)
赴美留學的簽證要求較高，除具備良好的學歷及專業(yè)背景外，是否獲得獎學金( scholarship)也是獲簽與否的一個重要因素。若能獲得美國大學的獎學金則可以在很大程度上增加獲簽的機率。
