至于另一個(gè)人，在人們從他身邊走過(guò)時(shí)，對(duì)身旁的朋友嗓音粗噶地說(shuō)，

"I can't stand this much longer. My hands tingle as if they had gone to sleep; my heart—"

“我再也受不了了。我的手一陣刺痛，好像睡著了似的;我的心……”

But still the multitude hurried on, passing, repassing, encountering, evading,

可是，很多人依舊急匆匆趕路，經(jīng)過(guò)，再經(jīng)過(guò)，碰上，躲開(kāi)，

vanishing into shop doors, and emerging from them, dispersing down the side streets, and swarming out of them.

閃身進(jìn)了商店，接著又從商店門(mén)后現(xiàn)身，紛紛鉆進(jìn)小巷，又一窩蜂地涌出來(lái)。

It was a scene that possessed the beholder with singular fascination, and in its effect of universal lunacy,

這是對(duì)此特別癡迷的人看到的一幕，人們都普遍極蠢，

it might well have seemed the last phase of a world presently to be destroyed.

這個(gè)世界似乎處于末日來(lái)臨前的最后階段。

They who were in it, but not of it, as they fancied — though there was no reason for this — looked on it amazed,
