A Brain Transplant

The Brain Surgeon was about to perform a brain transplant. “You have your choice of two brains,” he told the patient, “For $1000 you can have the brain of a psychologist, or for $10,000 you can have the brain of a politician.”

The patient was amazed at the huge difference in price. “Is the brain of a politician that much better?” He asked.

The Brain Surgeon replied, “No, it’s not better, just unused.”

一個外科醫(yī)生正要作一個腦移植手術。

你可以從兩個腦子中選一個給你。醫(yī)生告訴病人，一個心理學家的大腦1000美元，一個政治家的大腦10000美元。

病人很驚訝二者之間這樣大的差別，政治家的大腦好一些嗎?他問。

醫(yī)生說：不是好一些，只是沒有用過。

【詞匯講解】

1.transplant移植。也可以指“遷移”： A group of farmers were transplanted to the island by the government.一批農民被政府遷到這個島上居住。

2.surgeon外科醫(yī)生。內科醫(yī)生是internist。

3.perform進行。也有“執(zhí)行”的意思： He always performs his duties faithfully.他一貫忠實地履行自己的職責。

4.politician政客。 You need to be a bit of a politician to succeed.

你要獲得成功, 就需要有一點政客的手腕。

5.amaze 使驚奇。Your knowledge amazes me.你豐富的知識令我吃驚。

6.unused沒用過的。也有“不習慣的”的意思：He had grown unused to this sort of attention.他已經開始不習慣這樣的關注。
