In the old, old hall the old clock stands,

在很舊的大廳里立著一座老時(shí)鐘，

And round and round move the steady hands;

沉穩(wěn)的指針一圈一圈在走動(dòng)，

With its tick, tick, tick, both night and day,

伴隨著滴答、滴答、滴答，夜以繼日，

While seconds and minutes pass away.

一秒一秒、一分一分，隨之流逝。

At the old, old clock oft wonders Nell,

站在古老的時(shí)鐘前，內(nèi)爾滿臉困惑，

For she can't make out what it has to tell;

她無(wú)法理解它的訴說，

She has ne'er yet read, in prose or rhyme,

她未曾讀懂，散文或韻律詩(shī)，

That it marks the silent course of time.

說時(shí)鐘標(biāo)記著時(shí)間沉默的軌跡。

When I was a child, as Nell is now,

我還是個(gè)孩子時(shí)就像內(nèi)爾這樣，

And long ere Time had wrinkled my brow,

很久以前，時(shí)間還沒把皺紋刻在我額頭，

The old, old clock both by night and day

古老的時(shí)鐘同樣夜以繼日地說：

Said,—"Tick, tick, tick!" Time passes away.

“滴答，滴答，滴答！”時(shí)間匆匆而過。
