| I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me, | 我有個小小的影子，進進出出跟著我， |
| And what can be the use of him is more than I can see. | 我可不大知道他到底有什么用場。 |
| He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head; | 他呀，從頭到腳都非常非常地像我; |
| And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed. | 我跳上床去，倒看見他比我先蹦上床。 |
| The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow ---- | 他怎樣成長的呢，嗐，那才叫好玩—— |
| Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow; | 全不像真正的孩子那樣，慢慢地長大; |
| For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball, | 有時候他長得那么高，象皮球，一蹦竄上天， |
| And he sometimes gets so little that there' s none of him at all. | 有時候他縮得這么小，我完全看不到他。 |
