不要上當(dāng)，“see the elephant”不是“看見(jiàn)大象”的意思！

see the elephant 也可說(shuō)成 get a look / sight at the elephant，意思是“開(kāi)眼界”、“長(zhǎng)見(jiàn)識(shí)”。

“看到了大象”就等于“看到了世界”，就是“見(jiàn)過(guò)世面了”?因?yàn)?ldquo;see the elephant”這句俚語(yǔ)誕生的年代，只有在非洲和亞洲才能看到大象，對(duì)當(dāng)時(shí)的人來(lái)說(shuō)能看見(jiàn)大象就真的是相當(dāng)于是見(jiàn)過(guò)世面的了，算是開(kāi)了眼界了。就這樣，“see the elephant”就成了“見(jiàn)見(jiàn)世面”的意思了。

例：

The boy came and saw the elephant in the city.

男孩到城里來(lái)大開(kāi)了眼界。

see red

see red 源于斗牛，公?？吹郊t色就會(huì)發(fā)怒。因此，see red意思是“怒不可遏”、“火冒三丈”。

當(dāng)吉姆意識(shí)到受騙，他立即火冒三丈。
